Objectives
Series Objectives
The effective and safe management of pain is a primary concern for both Colorado healthcare providers and patients. As such, today's prescribers have dual obligations: to effectively manage pain and improve function while reducing opioid-related adverse outcomes such as diversion, addiction, overdose, and death.
Event Objectives
Describe indications for opioid tapering and/or discontinuation;
Explain how to initiate difficult patient conversations around discontinuing opioids;
Apply appropriate weaning strategies for patients discontinuing chronic opioid therapy;
Implement opioid withdrawal management and support strategies into practice; and
Employ buprenorphine therapy in support of withdrawal management and chronic pain treatment.
